Enabling Windows Remote Management is preferred in a domain environment. Doing this allows for much easier and simpler management of servers and workstations and minimizes the need for user interruption, manual intervention, and reboots.
In Group Policy Management editor, right-click the domain name domain.com
and select Create a GPO in this domain, and Link it here...
In the New GPO
dialogue box that appears, enter Enable-WinRM
in the Name field and click "OK"
Right-click the newly created GPO in the left-side navpane titled Enable-WinRM
and select Edit...
Drill down on the following path in the Group Policy Management Editor window:
- Computer Configuration > Preferences > Control Panel Settings > Services
Right-click Services
and select New > Service
In the New Service Properties window, change Startup:
to "Automatic" and enter WinRM
in the Service Name:
field. Change Service Action:
to Start Service
. Click 'OK' to save.
Drill down on the following path in the Group Policy Management Editor window:
- Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Remote Management (WinRM) > WinRM Service
Double click on “Allow remote server management through WinRM"
In the Window that appears, change the radio button to "Enabled" and enter an asterisk (*) into the fields for IPv4 Filter:
and IPv6 Filter:
. Click "OK" to close the window and save.
Drill down on the following path in the Group Policy Management Editor window:
- Computer Configurations > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Windows Firewall and Advanced Security > Windows Firewall and Advanced Security then right click on Inbound Rules > New Rule
In the New Inbound Rule Wizard
window, select the Radio button for Predefined:
Select Windows Remote Management
in the dropdown and click the "Next" button.
In the Predefined Rules
step of the Wizard, Uncheck the rule that has "Public" in the Profile
column. and click the "Next" button.
In the Action
stap of the Wizard,select the Allow the connection
radio button and click the "Finish" button to save.
